Origami Pteroplane

Difficulty: Easy

Just look at this for a sleek origami paper plane design! Named after the amazing prehistoric flying reptile, the pterodactyl, this little stunt plane is great fun! You will need a pair of scissors for this origami creation.

Step 1: Start with a rectangular piece of A4 paper – in your choice of colour

Step 2: Fold the paper in half vertically

Step 3: Open up the paper and fold the top corners in to meet the centre vertical crease line.

Step 4: Fold the tip of the paper down, creasing along the horizontal line at the bottom of the point

Step 5: Fold the bottom of the paper up towards the top, folding at the point of the inner paper – this should leave a gap as shown

Step 6: Unfold your paper

Step 7: Cut along the hortiztontal fold line. Don’t throw away the piece of paper you cut off! You’ll need this for the Pteroplane’s tail!

Step 8: Your paper should now look like this and will form the Pteroplane’s wings

Step 9: Fold the tip of the point upwards so it meets the top of the paper

Step 10: Unfold the last crease

Step 11: Fold the top corners in to meet the centre where the crease lines join to form a cross (indicated with the blue cross)

Step 12: Your paper should now look like this

Step 13: Fold the inner tip upwards as shown

Step 14: Unfold the tip and your paper should look like this

Step 15: Fold the top of the paper down so it meets the crease line you made in step 13, creasing where shown in blue.

Step 16: Your paper should now look like this

Step 17: Fold the point upwards to hold the last fold in place

Step 18: Turn the paper over and around so it looks like this

Step 19: Fold the left side over to meet the right side

Step 20: Using the piece of paper you cut off in step 7

Step 21: Cut the paper in half along the vertical crease line

Step 22: Using one part of the paper, fold it in half vertically, bringing the bottom up to the top

Step 23: Turn the wings of the plane so they look like this. Slide the new piece of paper into the wings (you may need to slightly unfold the wings to make this easier)

Step 24: Keep sliding!

Step 25: Slide the tail until it reaches the front of the wings

Step 26: Fold the Pteroplane’s wing and tail downwards so the tail is folded in half horizontally

Step 27: Turn the Pteroplane over

Step 28: Repeat step 27 with the other wing, folding the wing and tail downwards so the two sides are level

Step 29: Turn the Pteroplane over and the underneath should look like this

Your Pteroplane is complete! What daring stunts will it perform? How fast and far will it fly?
