Origami Pop-Up Star

Origami Pop-up Star Step 1: Start with a 6 inch x 6 inch (15cm x 15cm) square origami paper, color side up. Fold along the diagonal axis. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Pop-up Star Step 2: Flip paper over. Fold along the vertical and horizontal axis. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Pop-up Star Step 3: Flip paper over again.

Origami Pop-up Star Step 4: Fold all 4 tips to meet in the center.

Origami Pop-up Star Step 5: Fold the top half down to meet the bottom half.

Origami Pop-up Star Step 6: Now comes the slightly tricky part. We've named the tips A, B, C, D to help us explain the process.

Open the paper, crease along the line marked AD and hold down that crease while bringing the line AB over to meet AC.

Origami Pop-up Star Step 7: Now bring the line AF over to meet AD. The whole unit should form a square like a square base actually.

Origami Pop-up Star Step 8: Now make a petal fold. This is a common fold used in origami and we've written detailed instructions on another page to help beginners. Check out that page for more pictures and instructions.

Origami Pop-up Star Step 9: Fold the flap down in half.

Origami Pop-up Star Step 10: Flip paper over. Repeat Steps 8 and 9 so that both sides are now identical.

Origami Pop-up Star Step 11: Now comes the fun part. Fold up the top flap slightly. In doing so you'll see 2 flaps, one on the right and one on the left. Pull these 2 flaps in opposite direction.

As you spread the left and right flaps apart, your paper begins to transform and your origami pop-up star emerges!

Ta-Da!!! Your origami pop-up star is complete!
